Beautiful! Delicious! Invasive? | Growing Strawberry Spinach | Gardening 101 | Guten Yardening

We absolutely love the look of our strawberry spinach plants. We first planted them last year, and this year, we had an abundant supply of the beautiful strawberry spinach berries.

This year, the strawberry spinach plants appeared right after the winter finished in about 5 or 6 places where we had planted them last year. Since this was our first time growing them, we had a lot to learn about what this meant.

In this video, we talk about what we learned from growing the strawberry spinach this year, and we provide a warning about growing this variety of vegetable. While it is delicious, and the strawberry spinach berries are delicious on salad, we want to make sure you know what you are potentially getting into if you decide to grow this vegetable.

We hope you enjoy this video!

Thanks for watching.

One of our amaranth plants spread its seads all over. It’s growing everywhere, we couldn’t be happier. It’s beautiful and gets eaten daily! Yummm

I bought a pack of these thinking they looked fun to grow.
Had the package used the alternative name for this plant -- "Strawberry Blight" -- I probably would've steered clear.

I’ve never grown strawberry spinach. I’ll have etc give it a go. I love plants that are “invasive” 😁

I had tomatillo escape and it took two years of clear plastic to cook them out of the soil

I’m growing strawberry spinach in my garden for the first time but keeping it in a covered raised bed so that the birds can’t get to it. Hopefully I won’t have a problem with it spreading to much. I guess I will see next year.

Good info. Thank you for sharing this. I bought some from Ebay then looked them up on a seed site. Neither said nothing about strawberry spinach being invasive. The only warning I saw was about over indulging in the berries b/c it causes heath issues for some.

We shouldn’t call a plant native to the US invasive to the US… Still useful to know it spreads easily.

Thankyou for that information. I will rethink planting the seeds as we have a very small courtyard garden and such an invassive plant would just not work

I was hoping for some to grow back from last year but none did.

Never heard of that one. But I have plenty of invasive species around here so I don't think I'll be adding any more on purpose.
