Lagos Speaker Impeached, Meranda Replaces Obasa

The Lagos State House of Assembly has impeached Speaker Hon. Mudashiru Obasa over multiple statutory and financial infractions. His deputy, Hon. Mojisola Meranda, who previously served as Chief Whip and represents Apapa Constituency 1, has been appointed as the new Speaker. This decision comes after reports of controversial activities, including the withdrawal of N43.5 billion for lawmakers' vehicles. Obasa, who was first elected Speaker in 2015, is currently believed to be on holiday in Atlanta.
