Moral distress has been broadly described as the distress which is connected to a moral event or ethical issue. Many registered nurses and nursing students have experienced moral distress, and are reconsidering the longevity of their nursing careers as a result.

Led by Cardiff University and funded by the Burdett Trust for Nursing as part of its COVID-19 supporting resilience in the nursing workforce programme, the ASSISTANCE study highlights that moral distress must be taken seriously and outlines ways in which it can be mitigated.
