Raising Puppies Behind Bars Is Helping Inmates Find Purpose

One organization is using puppies to help people in prison and first responders. Puppies Behind Bars teachers people who are incarcerated to train service dogs for veterans and first responders, some of whom are living with PTSD. The dogs help both their raisers and owners live better lives. "It's more than just women or men in prison raising dogs," a puppy raiser at Bedford Hills Correctional Facility said. "We are human beings as well and we are capable of changing and capable of giving back." #InsideEdition

We need more programs like this, we shouldn’t isolate people in jail, we need to rehab them back into society.

I couldnt bond with a dog for 2 years and then give him away. I would be way too attached

They should do this with dogs and cats in shelters not so much for the inmates but for the animals, at least the will have a home

I understand how inmates deserve to be locked up but everyone deserves a second chance. There should be more programs to rehabilitate people

This is so adorable. I wish I got to train more with my dog. Makes me sad she’s gone but so happy to see people changing themselves to help puppies in need.

Giving certain types of inmates "a purpose" can change many lives for the positive. Imagine if an inmate did their time, got dogs/pups from the pound n opened up a business in training the dogs. That would be a great change and give the possibility that they won't return to their past life style.
