The CEO of my company promised there would be no layoffs at an all hands meeting. 3 months later, there were layoffs. After the layoffs the VP of our division held a debrief to discuss the aftermath. When asked why there was a layoff when the CEO promised there wouldn’t be one, he said “if someone promises you there won’t be layoffs, don’t believe them.” And he’s right of course. I was just surprised to hear him say it out loud. There will always be layoffs.

I always assume my job is going away tomorrow. That's why I lived as frugally as possible and saved up $120k cash. That way I can survive for at least 3 years without a job on just my savings without moving back in with my parents. I still rent a room for $1k a month all expenses included because not having a mortgage means I can move wherever I need to, whenever I need to, and I don't have to worry about owing some bank 100s of thousands of dollars while I'm unemployed.

Real and very unfortunate. Especially for all the new grads who can’t find that one career to start off with. It’s rough out here. Especially sucks if you’re not really outstanding in one thing.

As someone who's been watching this all play out for the past 20+ years, I have to say this video is so spot on!

I can't tell you how much this video has helped me out! I'm 18 years old and recently quit my part time job of 2 years for another opportunity that is overall better in pay and work environment wise. However as you said, it's still a risk and I've been taking the steps to develop other streams of income. This video is very eye opening and really helps me gain a better insight in not only our job market and economy, but also pushes me in the right steps/mindset to start my own business. I truly appreciate you for making this video, can't wait for the next ❤️!

Corporate America is so toxic nowadays - I leave after 1 - 2 years

Sage advice. I have spent four years building up a side gig and its about to become profitable. I am working two jobs and I feel like I am on a hamster wheel. I hope that I am able to quit one of my jobs and work on my side gig. That side gig, if it works the way I want it to, will create multiple passive income streams. I have learned the hard way how a replaceable a hard working driven employee can be. All companies seem to care about is making sure those at the top can afford another yacht at the expense of the people doing the real work.

Well the state of the job market and economy has made it incredibly clear that the age old narrative of a “safe and stable 9-5” is just not reality.

I have friends with masters degrees, +4 years of work experience, and outstanding resumes who can’t find jobs after 6 months of applying.

These same people weren’t complaining when they took that 6 figure job at the startup company. When these companies that pay way more than the average salary, are usually companies that don’t keep employees long.

The Skillshare ad on this video is top tier advertising right there. A relevant resource to the actual video.

Honestly seeing the scale and severity of the problem I think that it might be time for legislation to step in to prevent people from getting to the brink financially. the gigification of the economy and profit hoarding are ultimately the cause of the worker's hardships and will continue to be. Of course people will work to adapt to the times to keep food on the table and these tips are very helpful for that! But as more "inflation" prices are being proven to be "greedflation" prices, I can't help but think that fewer and fewer people will be able to keep up. System solution needed in addition to individual grit

I love that passive income requires a shit ton of money to even make it viable to be a reality. The passive income is a myth for the average joe.

Money on the side is truly a net. I never truly understood its power until having been laid off now 2 times in a little over a year. I have also been blessed that I have worked very hard to make a name for myself in my industry and position myself in a unique way. A 9 to 5 still holds a lot of merit for many especially for health insurance in the USA. I am also building my small art business and just started YouTube to document and hopefully help others too with thoughts and advice from my experiences. Love this video though.

This resonated soo deeply with me. I quit my 9-5 at a Big Four firm 11 years ago. Corporate dropout anyone?? 🖐️Everything that you mention (extintion of loyalty, oh yeah!) Plus, me I being an INFP and wanting do "do my own thing" and actually staying true to myself, was exactly what gave me that last push. I've built a successful solopreneur marketing career for the past decade, and I couldn't be more grateful that younger people are also making this decision early in their lives.
Thank you so much for this ✨🫶💖 Wishing the best for you and your channel. New subscriber! 🌈✨

I am a director for a large company and can tell you with certainty that the layoffs are due to over hiring. I have always kept my teams lean and NEVER had to lay off, although an unpopular practice. The over hiring is due to well-spoken leaders not having the talent to streamline work efficiently and effectively.
