Genetic algorithms, the tidy way (and software development) - Part 1

Показать описание
First video on developing your own genetic algorithm from scratch.
This video series will not focus too much on genetic algorithms per se, but more on the development process of such an algorithm using {tidyverse} functions.

Functions I show in this video that are of interest: formals() and rerun().

These genetic algorithms remind me of the plot of Rudy Rucker’s ‘Ware tetralogy’. Rucker is an excellent computer scientist as well as being a sci-fi writer. He is big into cellular automata, computer consciousness and all manner of other wacky concepts. I won’t spoil the plot of Software, the first book in the series - essentially the computer race in the story (the Boppers) are able to reproduce. Their children are an amalgamation of the two parent’s software, with randomness introduced by solar radiation bit-flipping (among other mechanisms). Rucker made computers have sex. The book explores the idea in a lot of detail and with side-splitting humour. Anyway, I think Bruno and his audience would love this series of books.
