My father started one of these in the late 90's and 10+ years later decided to finish it. He made his street legal and mostly stock vw parts. You can't drive one of these without smiling especially since it had no windshield.

Was not very fast but easily stayed with traffic. Handles like it is on rails. Frame is extremely stiff which you would expect since it is a roll cage on wheels lol. He drove it to work most days rain or shine unless it was below 60° (wore insulated hunting coveralls).

One days he calls me from work to come pick him up. Figured it broke down on him. Turns out he had a flat rear tire he didn't know about until he got to work. He said he noticed it was driving a "little" different. When he got to town he could hear an odd noise coming from drivers rear. Even with a flat it drove and handled almost normal. After removing the tire we lowered on three wheels and it sat level.

These things are cheap, simple, and fun! Everyone should drive one just once.

Nice vw. If you ever want more power go to the Honda vtec motor. Cheap and will bolt up to the vw trans.

That thing sounds just like my 06 ranger with a 2.3 and a 5 speed 😂

Is anyone familiar with what set of tires and rims are on the front and back of this buggy?

How much do you think most of these would go for? I’m trying to buy one

Beautiful rail. Any plans of moving that motor up? Back in the day, my pops actually had his trans flipped around and the linkage came back around to the front

Are dune buggies like this street legal for main roads? Cuz if so, I'm totally buying one in the future 😂

What is the size and brand of the rear tires. I’m looking for a set for my Jeep. They kinda look like the old desert dog tires. Are these a Ag Terror tire?? Thanks

Do you know if those front wheels take stock vw bearings or if they take some special bearings?

Lot of bang for the buck.now a day people think they need to spend $100 grand on a buggy.we have had more fun with our buggies just like yours, and didn't have to mortgage the house to get it. I don't like the fuel tank 5" from my head though.
