About the health insurance, yes it is expensive. However, after the deductible, you don't have to think about the price any more. In an emergency that's noticeable. Three months on an ICU can cost CHF 250'000 easily (personal experience). The bill for you, just your deductible. You don't have to sell your house to continue care.

As a Swiss I get your points. However, as somebody who just had a major operation three months ago, I appreciate our expensive health system much more now. I also appreciate the noise curbs. In Asia your neighbor can basically turn up his stereo at any day or night time and you can’t do anything about it. It is very unfortunate that this new generation of kids seems to smoke much more again. Smoking seems to come in waves.

As a diabetic with a father that had a heart attack and is diabetic as well and had knee and hips replaced, we paid the monthly payment for insurance with pleasure. Never paid for insuline, got all the newest insulin pumps and glucoste monitoring, my dad went to noirmont for heart rehab and hip and knee replacement were in a great hospital + rehab. Never paid a dime of those costs.

As a french living in Switerland I am so thankful to have the chance to live in this country. It is clearly not perfect nevertheless i consider that it is a miracle. Swiss people please keep your country, your traditions and your rules.

Hi just to make you understand the rules. If you wanna make a party (with loud Music) inform your neighbors that it will be loud even after 22:00 (inform the government) than there is no problem.
The deductible for each of my family members is at 400 CHF. If you have children and a family you may have the right to get the insurance to 70% off, it depends on income and how big the family is. Sometimes even companies that you work for are giving you an discount because they have an contract with them.

If you wanna know something in Switzerland you have a debt to obtain information from the government. They self will never inform you.

And you are right the teens are smoking more (viping).
Sorry for my horrible English

I have fully private health insurance. It has been amazing. I was diagnosed with cancer 18 months ago. Being in Switzerland with the health insurance saved my life

Switzerland 🇨🇭 is a best country to live, healthcare is world class, work and life balance. Salary is best ever, that’s why some Hollywood celebrities wants to stay here because they can just walk in the street and nobody bother’s them.
Hier wird die Ruhezeit respektiert.

We lived in Switzerland for 5 years as expats….. best time EVER. Healthcare, cleanliness, fresh air, mountains. The system works. Planning to go back again. Miss it so much ❤❤❤

As a Canadian living in Switzerland for over 20 years I can say that yes the premiums seem high with the deductible, but the taxes are much lower than in Canada and the salaries are higher. Plus the services are better in Switzerland. In Canada my father was on a wsit list for years to get heart surgery. Went to the hospital 5 times and each time he was bumped for a more urgent case. In Switzerland my husand needed heart surgery and got the best care with no wait. Also there is accident insurance which is paid for by your employer ao if you break a leg skiing or hiking or walking on an icy road, everything is covered and you don't pay the 2500 franchise. I broke my shouler and my husband broke his ankle. All the time off work, physio, medications... were covered. We did npt pay anything. In Canada, if you have an accident you must use your sick time and when that is used up you must take an unpaid leave.

If you’re going to explain medical insurance, it’s better to explain all the options. Don’t just give one example.
About the noise, if you plan to have a party, inform your neighbors then it’s fine. Common curtesy.
Yes, unfortunately young people smoke a lot. Like anywhere else in the world.
I hope you do like something in Switzerland though😅

One time you’re having a real health issue in Switzerland and you’ll learn what you were paying for.

As a Swiss resident, I can confirm that the cost is high but the service and treatment is immediate.

I'm a diabetic and I never have to worry to get my insulin. I'm only paying at max 1k a year on tops of the premiums. after that 1k, I do not pay anymore, even I have to go to the hospital. It ist expensive, but you don't get financially ruined like people in the US if you need medical assistance.

I have been living in Switzerland for almost six years now and I find the healthcare system great. It gives you the opportunity to choose your deductible and the lower your chosen deductible is the more expensive your monthly payment will be. So, if you are not often sick, you can choose a higher deductible and save on the monthly costs, but in case you get sick you have to pay more of the initial costs. It is like a gamble with your own health. But, to put it into perspective, Switzerland is still very expensive compared to other countries.

For example:
Deductible: CHF2'500 -> monthly payment: CHF300
Deductible: CHF300 -> monthly payment: CHF400

That sounds about right, but costs vary depending on your insurance company.

You are right about the high cost of health insurance, but you get top treatment at any time, with top medical equipment and devices. About the noise, I personally appreciate being able to enjoy my sleep, my house, my family, without having to accept a rave party next door....

You appreciate health insurance here much more when you are in real trouble like serious surgery or cancer. 2500 is a max you pay for year, rest is covered by insurance and you'll never get 100k+ bill here unlike USA for example. When you go to hospital you know that Krankenkasse will cover your medical bills and you don't think about that at all. And 2500 is like half of one average salary here

I'm Swiss, born in Switzerland, grew up in Switzerland, still live in Switzerland. I'm as Swiss as we come. And I absolutely agree with you: our health care system is utterly absurd!

That said, don't touch the no-noise-after-10pm-rule. People's sleep must be respected.😌

You forgot to mention, that if you get pregnant and give birth, all costs are 100% covered. It doesn’t matter, if you need to stay in hospital for weeks before birth. All covered. You don’t pay a dime.
Also you might get seriously sick one day and then you only have to pay that deductible and the whole rest is paid. Sometimes that’s CHF 100‘000 or more, especially if you happen to have a chronical condition.
I think it’s the greatest system in the world.
