Grand Prix auto racing dates back more than a century, to races organized in France in the early 1900s. Now known as Formula 1, auto racing is an international sporting phenomenon. But another racing league is taking over city streets around the world -- and while it has all the speed and thrills of Formula 1, it’s missing one important element: gasoline. That's because the new vehicles are "e-racers," high-performance cars that run on electric power. Jeff Glor reports.

Each weekday morning, "CBS This Morning" co-hosts Gayle King, Anthony Mason and Tony Dokoupil deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, four News & Documentary Emmys, three Daytime Emmys and the 2017 Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Newscast. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. That Mario Kart/Wipeout scenario in the races is lit.

Thank you, CBS. I'm surprised an American mainstream media reported this.
I know this will get a lot of hate from gearheads but for *petrolheads* 😝, it's gaining popularity. What is the most important factor of racing? Expert would say it's wheel-to-wheel action and constant battle, not the sound.

Like I understand moving regular cars to hybrid and “eco-friendly” but can we keep racing regular. Like. This type of racing could still be achieved if you put formula 1 cars on these small tracks the racing would be just as good. The small track is the only reason why formula E is exciting.
