Death is to be avoided at all costs.

Noted.

I have bad allergies so use a machine to clean out my nose with salt. Some with similar devices have died from the Amoeba because of this treatment. ALWAYS use distilled water using these treatments and make sure to properly clean and sanitize them.
Distillied water id only $1-$1.50 a gallon here so there is no excuse not to use it.

The first time I remember hearing about this was when I learned a child contracted and died from a brain eating amoeba at a Disney water park in the 80s. Newer treatments are showing promise to increase survival, but it is still not perfect. Of course, getting these treatments to developing nations where people are more likely to contact the amoeba remains challenging.

Rabies is also pretty much a death sentence, but it can be fixed if treated in time and also the Milwaukee protocol has worked once or twice.

The states with most reported cases are: CA, AZ, TX, FL and SC
(note: this means 8 or more cases reported since 1962, so while these are the most reported states, the numbers are still pretty low and you're propably more likely to get hit by lightning)

I remember a case in Australia where a family were playing in the garden with a hose in the hot weather, and the water went up the nose of one of the kids. The child went on to have crippling headaches, was misdiagnosed several times by doctors, became unconscious and ultimately died. 😢

"Naegleria Fowleri is bad. Thanks for watching."

Luckily, even if it does get in your nose, your body can often catch it before it reaches the brain.

Thankyou for that. I will now never shower, swim, breath, or anything else with any water ever again.

Luckily, infection is extremely rare (at least where I live). Look online for a list of places where infection has been confirmed and avoid the water (or pick a new vacation spot).

The amoeba can also cause eye infections, especially in those who wear contacts. This is why you never swim with contacts in and never rinse your contacts with tap water.

These things still scare me as much as they scared me when I was a kid lol

That: "So that's nice" sigh at the end killed me!

This stuff is the reason people can't use the Roman Baths in Bath, Somerset anymore. A girl died of the infection after swimming there in 1978, and using the ancient baths has been banned ever since.

So basically don’t swim in any lake for the rest of my life, and I won’t die to this

We get these occasionally in lakes here in MN. There's a warning placed and the lake is closed until the Amoeba die off

Its also very rare for this bacteria to kill, cuz it has to get through your nose, your blood, and survive inside your brain, all of which are littered with defenses

Simon's sarcastic- so that's nice at the end 🤣🤣

I’m over by a lake on vacation, and went swimming a couple of times. I’ve no symptoms, but now I have extreme paranoia about it
