RIP Willis Reed! My sister Dee Dee loved him and he always was her hero. She was a big knicks fan and I learned about them because of her. I was 11 when the knicks won their first championship and Reed made his inspiring entrance at MSG. I’ll never forget the joy my sister had when they won. Frazier had a spectacular. game! Barnett, Brady and DeBrusser were all amazing. The Jets and the Mets also had won championships. What a glorious time for New York!!!

This was a TEAM! There were no ball hogs, no hotdogs, no sissified prima donnas, and no crybabies. These were athletes who united under the purpose of winning games as a unit. I miss that mentality.

I remember that game as a kid watching it on our black and white tv. Even then, I remember it being truly special. Still gives me chills.

One of the greatest sports memories of my 77 years. I feel so lucky to have seen it and remembered it. It was a different type of basketball; it was our type of basketball with our type of players. Thank you guys!

Just got the news of Reed's passing, wow. Just to put into context what a different time that was, I was born and raised in New York City, lived in Harlem until I was 14. I was a freshman an New York University at the time. The previous year, the Mets had won it all (after 6 seasons finishing last, then one of NEXT to last after being formed in 1962, around the time I became interested in baseball). I was playing in a chess league that night (stop that snickering, lol) when the game started, but there was a "saving grace" aspect to that: I couldn't watch it live anyway (attending the game live was WAY beyond my meager allowance, lol), because the game was on tape delay. Think about that: Game 7, of the NBA Finals, between the two largest cities in the country...and the game was on tape delay. I'd say the NBA has come a long way. The chess game was long, as they sometimes are, and I went to the bathroom 2 or 3 times. Each time I went, I plugged my ears and went "la, la, la" because I could see people in the hallways listening to flimsy transistor radios, obviously listening to the game, and I didn't wanna hear ANYTHING that was happening, obviously. I won my game, took my ass back to the dorm (even though I lived in the Bronx, I had gotten a full scholarship that included room and board at "The Brittany" a boy's dorm located at 55 East 10th Street. When the showed Willis walk almost casually onto the court, well, you see the reaction. If I live to 2070, I don't think I'll forget that. R.I.P. Willis.

“And when he came out, it was like electricity coursed through the whole arena. I remember [Elgin] Baylor, [Jerry] West and [Wilt] Chamberlain stopped warming up and watched him. I figured at that moment we were in pretty good shape." - Bill Bradley on the moment Willis Reed came out during warmups before Game 7 of the 1970 NBA Finals. RIP Captain.
