K-PAX ENDING

I'm turning 25 today. I first watched K-PAX when I was 15 and I always rewatched this scene on birthday, since prot's speech always hit me so hard. Strangely enough, this is the first time when the speech fell flat to me, but on the contrary, it's the first time when Mark reuniting with his son made me feel emotional. I remember that as a teenager, I had no idea where I was going with my life. I felt like I wasted all of my time away and thus prot's advice to make every moment count was invaluable, especially because of how optimistic it was. Over time I learned to live by that philosophy, but I also realised how difficult it is to forgive and trust your friends and relatives. Sometimes you're gonna feel like no one cares for you anymore, but in reality, they do, and you do care for them as well, even if you often fail at showing that. So, in the end, perhaps prot's speech is still relevant; it just no longer means 'don't waste your time', but rather 'don't waste your time not loving other people; this time [with them] is all you have.'

He's an alien that entered someone's body, but then left back home and now "Robert" is no more.

His son Jesse kicked on to be a hugely successful meth dealer.

1:16 Spacey forms a very subtle smile. You can barely see it, but subconsciously it makes the emotional tone of the scene more positive and warm.

The moment where the psychiatrist looks into Prot's glasses and Prot begins his closing narration, I always choke up. That piano soundtrack is perfect...it goes right through you. This movie is extraordinary.

Thanks for uploading this! Ive been searching for this clip for a while! Love the ending to K-Pax - very beautifully written - and the perfect ending monologue with Kevin Spacey. "My advice to you is to get it right this time, because this time is all you have"

It's always kinda difficult for me to watch the end of this movie when mark meets his son again. I think I speak for many of us guys when I say that oftentimes, we don't see eye to eye with our old man. I for one have always had a strained relationship with my dad. He never seemed to care about us and it was all about him, he didn't care if we went to school or how we did in school and he always seemed to want me and my siblings to fail or be at a lower status than him. And I hated him for that and still hold that against him. But having said that, a son I think always, no matter what, always wants to seek approval and acceptance from his father, no matter how much you may not like him. And that is shown here...his son hasn't seen his dad in years but seemed thrilled to see his dad again with a chance to patch things up and rekindle their bond.
In my case, thankfully my siblings and I are all successful and have great careers, no thanks to my dad. But I think I've forgiven him, it has what it is... I'm still hoping that one day he will tell me how proud I've made him.

So when it comes to light travel, he was light, he wasn't a physical being, only a spirit that took over Roberts body

Now that you've found Robert, please take good care of him

I remember watching this after it came out in college. Robert's words in the end perfectly describe how I feel about time and the universe, but I had never heard my feeling so concisely said out loud. I still watch this scene sometimes, with wet eyes. It's perfect.

It always bugged me that they show his face smirking in the close up and then cut back to him just staring blankly again.

Mr. Charles Leavitt, the screenwriter who adapted Gene Brewer's fiction novel of the same name (and on which this film is based), did a superb job using Prot's observation of the pattern of the universe as his parting advice to Dr. Mark Powell. If I remember correctly—which is happening less and less these days—this scene take place as a conversation (and not as a farewell) between the two characters and occurs not even halfway through the book.
