You know you've found a brilliant musician when the live version is better than the album version.

I may be shallow but I think he is as physically beautiful as his voice is.

I love Hozier fans. They're so nice. They don't argue about every single little thing. I hate reading the YouTube comments on other people's vids (even though I still do bcuz I'm addicted). Y'all are cool. Keep the fandom this way #HozierFam

I have come to the conclusion that he is a siren

I am literaly blown away by this song. My interpretation is that he describes line by line how it is to be in love with a very damaged person ("there are questions I can't ask") and how cruel society can be sometimes towards rape victims or victims in general, speaking then about "how good it is" to be alone with that person, like two people against the world. He has so much talent to say the truth about hard topics and to tell awful things with such poetry. He's a true & amazing artist, a very sensitive one I think. The fact that his voice is so strong and lively just adds more haunting and emotional effect! He really reminds me of some jazz/blues singers like Billie Holiday in his way of saying reflective things about society in his songs.

the high note is so insanely impressive. I'm a girl and i went to singing lessons for a year, in which it took me quite a while to be able to do that. For a person with a naturally even deeper voice than mine, this was mind blowing. Hozier, you'll forever be my favorite artist

He is an underrated guitarist. Incredible talent to play and sing like that.

Hozier is absolutely one of the best musicians and great songwriters of my lifetime. I'm so very happy to have been able to see him live. I still can't believe it! This 64 year old woman feels privileged to have discovered his music.
Come back to Albuquerque, NM.

I love his lower range...but when he hits that high note? Chills everywhere!

The way this is composed is so brilliant. The blues rock chorus emphasises the intoxicating nature of a toxic relationship. And the somber verse section is so melancholy. Love this song.

This man is a goddamn siren and I refuse to believe otherwise.

@Hozier, you probably won't read this. But if the universe was kind and you did, I just want to thank you, specially for your lyrics. I live in a place where women's rights and value are underrated. Music in here talks only about women being abused, and mistreated or objectified. And I felt like being uncomfortable with it was wrong, like I was wrong for wanting to be treated like a person instead of a decorative object.Like not wanting to drunk-dance to those songs with some drunk dude was wrong.

And then I heard "To be alone" where you talk about not fitting in while listening to the so called "Anthems of rape culture". And, I know it's not a big deal, for others, and it's not the main topic of that song. But It meant the world to me.
And that is what being an artist is about, spreading yourself to the world in the hope of giving others something to be inspired with, in my case, you helped me. SO MUCH.

I just felt like, if someone out there thinks the same thing too, I am not alone in this. And it's okay not to like being mistreated, and If I speak my mind, someone out there, will agree with me.
I am not alone. And I know it's just a song, and it's just a line in a second of a song. But it really meant the world for me. I Just wanted to thank you for bringing true Ideas and messages to popular music. Cause that way, a girl like me, in a city like this, in a reality like mine, will learn, that there are other realities.

lyrics:
Never feel too good in crowds,
With folks around
When they're playing
The anthems of rape culture loud,
Crude and proud
Creatures baying
All I've ever done is hide
From our times
When you're near me
Honey, when you kill the lights
And kiss my eyes
I feel like a person for a moment of my life
But you don't know what hell you put me through
To have someone kiss the skin that crawls from you
To feel your weight in arms I'd never use
It's the god that heroin prays to
It feels good, girl, it feels good
It feels good, girl, it feels good
It feels good, girl, it feels good
Oh to be alone with you
There are questions I can't ask
Now at last
The worst is over
See the way you hold yourself
Reel against
Your body's borders
I know that you hate this place
Not a trace
Of me would argue
Honey, we should run away
Oh someday
Our baby and her momma
And the damaged love she make
But I don't know what else that I would give
Than try to kiss the skin that crawls from you
Then feel your weight in arms I'd never use
It's the god that heroin prays to
It feels good, girl, it feels good
It feels good, girl, it feels good
It feels good, girl, it feels good
Oh to be alone with you
It feels good, girl, it feels good
It feels good, girl, it feels good
It feels good, girl, it feels good
Oh to be alone with you

After many viewings, I have some points to make:

1 - Hozier has very cute ears
2 - That stare at 1:03 only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like a few minutes
3 - The filming is intensely beautiful & makes the song feel like a journey
4 - He busts out a perfect blues solo, eyes closed, ain't no thang

I don't know who this God heroin prays to, but I feel like bowing down.

That is all.

I love how everyone is trying to overlook that he uses the words "rape culture" and try to make it out to mean something else. Nah. We know what rape culture is, we know that he doesn't mean anything like a chaotic street. Listening to this song, honestly, I think this song is about what it's like to be in love with someone with so much sexual trauma. It's about loving someone with serious trust issues, especially sexually. Trying to navigate the complicated journey of survival and recovery from sexual assault, from rape, from abuse. "Honey when you kill the lights and kiss my eyes... I feel like a person for a moment of my life."

"The damaged love she makes. I don't know what else that I would do, than try to kiss the skin that crawls from you." Having the trust of someone you love, being able to live in your body as a BODY and not a trap filled with horrific memories is like a drug. Love, trust, feeling, emotions are like drugs. When you feel nothing, you crave the ability to do so more than ever. Trauma numbs.

But nah, go ahead and try to make it about something else, try to ignore the fact this song is implicitly about the effect misogyny has on men and women. About rape culture and a crude culture that ignores the effects it has on victims.

Damn, this guy is amazing. He has one of those voices that cuts through everything and sends the feeling of the song straight to your brain, even if you aren't listening very closely.

We need more musicians like Hozier, with depth and soul (and something to say about relationships and society). The whole album is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Such a stunning voice, and the guitar follows suit to create a haunting effect. I can't get enough of these songs. Makes me want to listen to a bunch of old blues records. I will definitely see him live if I have the chance to.

If him and Adele did a collaboration, it would shatter worlds.
