ESA’s Rosetta spacecraft descended onto Comet 67P/Churyumov–Gerasimenko on 30 September 2016. These are some of the last images send back to Earth from 720 000 000 km away. Farewell Rosetta and Philae!

The first space probe that was sent to a comet was the International Cometary Explorer in 1985. The space-craft was a re-purposed solar research satellite, reprogrammed in orbit. NASA and others used the sling-shot effect to give it enough momentum to reach Comet Allendt.
This preceded the Soviet/European space probe to Halley's comet.

Comet 67P is the T-Rex comet. I just saw his head in the photos. :)

most of those comments are making me sad for humanity. We need more education.

Bye Rosetta... You've done your last mission and you did your best... May you stay in our hearts for your big success...

by looking at the rather odd shape of this...makes me wonder if it could ever break apart into 2 maybe 3 different asteroids with varying trajectories...

I'm super late, but I have a mod for the space simulator _SpaceEngine_ that uses Rosetta and Philae.

While I was right with Philae, I've been placing Rosetta into orbit around the comet this whole time.
And I recently found out that the probe is on the surface.
Silly old me.

Where are the pics from the surface? Why are they all black and white? Why is the last pic blurry? Did their several-million-dollar camera failed to focus propely?

Wow ! I've just read  few comments from the tinfoil hat crowd. What a bunch of idiots ! Haven't they got better things to do with their time rather than even look at this video much less foment nutty conspiracy theories and then post them onto the comments section?  OUCH ! I've just face-palmed so hard that I might have to go to the emergency room !   ( That said, I thought the science and pictures were astonishing. We've all grown up thinking that comets and asteroids were somewhat solid objects, and some might actually be, come to find out that they're really just loose conglomerations barely held together by their weak gravity. )

Will the comet ever come near to earth or solar system again?

Out of all the comets floating in space, why did we choose to visit this one?

won't that send the comet on the correct path back to us on earth.? may be the comet is filled with aliens after all.
