Canon R6 unboxing and test

The Canon R6 has been a total pain to get my hands on, but finally I got one. This will be my main camera for video on the channel and so it had better be good. Priced at $2499 USD in the US and £2499 pounds in the UK it is reasonably priced for what you get. I bought this with my own money and I was not sponsored in any way for this video. CANON’s success no doubt in part to their ‘cheapskateness!’ This is coming from a huge Canon fan here, but for $2400.00, you think they’d give one a little something in the packaging and presentation. Canon has developed a real sterile experience last few years. The big box with all that empty space inside, and the insipid industrial plastic trays. Look how Panasonic and others approach it?! Apple charges people a ton of money, but at least a person gets a good and pleasant experience when opening the box for the first time.  

The R6 seems to be a hit, but once again, I question their logic? Why the limit on resolution? I don’t think this camera is meant to be an action camera like the R3? Canon should have made it with at least 24 or so megapixels, even more, and it would not have been ‘stepping on the toes’ of the R5. Seriously, this is the same Company that released the 90D! 32 megapixels in a crop sensor, for pixels sake! 😄 I personally would like to have a bit more resolution, for my money, if purchasing the R6. And this is coming from someone that still loves to shoot with older 1D bodies, with between 10.2 and 17 megapixels. 

I see a lot of You Tube creators that shoot wildlife, and specifically, birds, with the R6, and inevitably there is usually some cropping involved. This is specifically where my argument for more resolution is based on. Having that little ‘extra’ might make the difference between a good photo, and a great one. YMMV.  

And I hope they did more than add an extra letter on the suffix of the battery, to cope with the extra demand of a Mirrorless camera. The LP E6 / E6N batteries plain suck! Every battery I have, has only two bars of recharging left, and some don’t even charge to 100%! Yes, they are OEM Canon batteries, and degrade quickly. Add to the fact they don’t last in my 5DIV. That’s a whole ‘ nother sad story, but I digress.
