One thing to note about Alcatraz is that it moves not long after the real-life prison was shut down. Implying it fed on the prisoners there but after it was closed down they tried radiation therapy so it couldn't replicate. Instead, it did replicate and moved to the West Coast in search of sustenance.

I love the deadpan strangeness of this series--how there's very little that's "scary" besides a couple of jump scares (the canyon crown one is my favorite), but it has a feeling like a real bad, slightly coherent nightmare. It doesn't make a lot of literal sense, but it has a symbolic through-line and a consistent internal un-logic that brings it all together in an unforgettable and powerful way.

The real terrifying thought is what this universe’s version of ‘We Didn’t Start the Fire’ would sound like.

"Some idiot left the lens cap on and we can assume they we're promptly sent to Ellis Island" For some reason, the way you delivered that line is really funny to me.

To quote President Dean, “I’m surprised”.

Going to love watching this over and over again!

I don't think I'm the only one, but I get scared easily, so it's a godsend to have channels like this that let me experience these series, while also having someone talk through it and cut out a lot of the suspense

24:40 The "Canyonggalan", as far as I know, is a reference to the Penanggalan, a sort of Malay vampire creature. If I remember well, it's basically a floating head with organ dangling from it. It decapitates its victim, then empties it like an Halloween pumpkin. After, it shrink its own body with vinegar to fit inside the victim's hollowed-out body, and passes as a regular person.

Somebody might have to fact-check me on this: I only heard about this creature once, and it was a while ago.

It's worth noting that parts of this series are based on real world events, like apparently the creator of Lady Liberty did inexplicably die during the statues creation, and the crate holding it somehow developed dents and holes as it was being shipped.

I think it I finally know what this series reminds me of: the works of Junji Ito. It has that same kind of feeling that reality’s bent ever so slightly out of shape, and I love it. It reminds me a lot of Gyo, where a nation’s past comes back to haunt them in some way or another, and humans are changed in ways you wouldn’t think of before the story’s events unfold. Probably my favorite new horror series in quite some time, it’s fantastic at the feelings it wants to evoke.

I had Monument Mythos recommended on my feed the other day, and I was really impressed. I've really been getting into analogue horror these days and can't wait to see more from Alex. Hope you are doing well Nick

I've only ever seen Night Mind get seriously stumped once, and that was This House Has People In It. To hear him just blatantly go "Yeah, I'm gonna be honest, I don't know how to explain this. This is just freaky." made me laugh out loud in my seat. Absolutely hilarious!

Monument Mythos is the first series of this kind that I've been on the ground floor of.

I found AlexKansas theough his video CORNERFOLK, and was lucky enough to start the Mythos from the moment LIBERTYLURKER dropped.

The small community that grew around it, and the amazing threads of speculation were all worth it!

Already saw Wendigoon's coverage of this, but with how insane this series is, I really am more than glad to listen to you cover it for us again! Good taste as always NM c:

I must say, the analog horror genre had unfortunately became a bit oversaturated lately, and it was a matter of time until many series became repetetive or straight up copies of original ones like Mandela Catalogue or Local58. However, Monument Mythos had truly introduced many fresh concepts here. Overall I really liked it, especially the Suez Canal Crab. It doesn't add much to the overall story, but I like the whole parallel world elements that appear. I won't spoil them here, go have a watch if you're interested!

I have been waiting for Night Mind to do a video about the Monument Mythos, its such an interesting topic to deep dive in. I know I am commenting before I even watched the video but I am already excited, down the rabbit hole we go.

*FUCK. YES.* The monument mythos has to be by far my favourite series on there. In no other series can you see the statue of liberty fighting a glowing nervous system, resulting in the earth exploding and tentaculating before the universe turns into ballsack hairs, resulting in Mr. Game And Watch

you forgot to mention Mr. Squirrel, the best character in this series
