I made the mistake of doing datura and coincidentally it felt like i was walking in a bowl of mashed potatoes but If you want to experience the unjoy of datura then raise body temp to a fever of 106 for same effects

Thanks for the information on the Datura. I just got some seeds of Datura Metel Double Yellow and was doing some research when I came across your channel. They tell me that the flowers are upright and the flowers on Brugmansia hang down. I was getting the two plants mixed up, but seemingly they are different species. Anyway, best regards.

A beautiful plant, truly, but also one that deserves the utmost reverence and respect. This looks to be a D. Stramonium (Jimson Weed), which can be quite endemic to certain places in the Southeastern US.

Having researched Datura in general for a college paper, I can safely say that while touching the leaves and stem isn’t “dangerous” per se; it is beyond best practice to wear gloves when handling the plant, as the tropane alkaloids (scopolamine, hyoscyamine, atropine, etc.) can infiltrate through small cuts; leading to a negative experience.

In regards to cultural uses, the Datura plant has notably been used by the Luiseño peoples in the Southwest for their Toloache ceremonies for centuries; along with other cultures in the native range of the plants.

The plant deserves to stay good sir, just...fence it off to prevent unwanted contact between pets, kids, the uninformed...and best practice is cutting the pods from the plant once they turn brown (but before splitting); this way you can decide if you want to grow more of them. They go wonderfully in a night garden!

*Edit:* whoever left comment number 3, I can’t see what was written. Try leaving a generic “hi” or something so I can converse with you!

That particular one is a datura stramonium. It also used to be smoked for asthma

As a child I had these growing in our old burn pile, I thought they were awesome looking and let it grow. And used to throw the balls around. Even tasting the inside seeds🤦 interestingly, after it being there for awhile and my parents now being aware, it was cut down. No one knew what it was, and I imagine they looked into it online and found out.

I would get rid of the Devils Trumpet as it can bring all kinds of bad luck to you.

I have this plant growing under my bird feeder grown from the dropped seads and i am going to keep it growing. they say it is not poison unless you ingest it.. i guess i will keep my dogs away from it bur the trumpet flowers are very cute.

Thanks. I have noticed that thankfully my pigs will not eat it. I have left it alone in many places because it shades the soil that was bare and it will be easy enough to mow off with a scythe at any point. I believe that tobacco is also in that family.
