IDA Dodgeball 101 - How To Play Dodgeball Rules

What's interesting is that in my country, dodgeball is generally played completely different from this during P.E..
The field is like in the video, except the back and sides have some room which the active players aren't allowed on. Usually, the indoor volleyball markings were used. The inside was the play area, the outside was the captain/out area.
Each team designates a captain. The captain should probably be a rather good player, because after everyone's out, the captain steps in with 3 lives. Anyway, the captain starts in the captain/out area on the opposite half from his team.
Rock paper scissors determine which captain gets the ball first.
The captain that gets the ball, throws it over to his team to start the game. This pass CAN be caught by the enemy team at any point. Kinda like blocking in basketball, since the ball itself is dead at this point. If a person on the captain's team catches the thrown ball without it touching the ground, it is live and can be immediately used to throw at the enemy players. If it hit the ground, it is dead and in order to ready it up, you must pass it to someone so that it doesn't touch the ground.
If the player catches the ball without it touching the ground, the ball is active and can be thrown at the enemy team immediately.
Every player that gets hit passes out of the play area by crossing the intersection where the line separating the two halves and the side edges of the court cross.
Players can not be brought back in any way and after one team completely wipes out the other team, that team's captain comes over to the play area and they are allowed 3 lives. Sort of as a last stand while the entire team is in the out area.
Any balls can be caught by anyone in the out area, activated and used to hit the enemy team that they surround. So in case of a captain's last stand, they must utilize their team in the out zone to actually arm the ball.

Regarding head shots, I am guessing about this system -
1. A purposeful hit with a ball to the head of the opponent will mean a dead ball and the throwing player will get a warning.
2. The next time another purposeful head hit happens after the warning, the offending player is not just out - he's disqualified and not allowed to return for the rest of the game, and the team who got its player disqualified will be short-handed.

The rule of blocking is a mess because it is difficult to judge if the ball hits the players' fingers or not. "Honest is the best policy" is not the way to make dodgeball to become an Olympic or popular sport. World Dodgeball Federation should remove the blocking rule, but keep the catch or "deflect" rule instead. To consider a pro volley player can deflect a slam ball by reaction, deflecting and catching the ball without touching the ground is counted as a catch that is already good enough and make the game more simple. IMO, making the game play and rule more simple and manageable is the key to make it more popular.
