This was EXACTLY the video i needed to find. I got a pack of Ex Libris from my local art museum, having no idea what they were but they fascinated me so i bought them. I’ve been trying to find out more info on them, but couldn’t find anything until your video!! I didn’t realize they had such historical significance, and how cool they actually were. I thought they were just pretty bookmarks. I appreciate the concise explanation of their history. I now have a new obsession!!! And as an artist myself, i loved that i got to learn something new about art and history 💜💜💜 Thanks for a great video

I just found your video just a few years after you posted. Thank you for talking about such a niche topic.
I am becoming fascinated by book plates, because I found some important ones in my family's copies of the Wizard of Oz series. It is a tradition to read Oz to our children, my dad read them to me and I am now reading them to my son. In the books I have found book plates that hold the name of my great grandma, and they say that the book was a xmas gift in the year 1927 from her grandma. So it is amazing to hold a book that is almost 100 years old and to see the hand writing of my Great great great grandmother.
I am in agreement with you you should plate your books that you intend to pass along. You never know how long they will be in the family and it can be very cool for someone down the line. More people need to use book plates again, we need to celebrate the history of objects more.

I just watched this video and really liked it so thank you for sharing! The first ex libris is actually a famous design. I think it’s originally from the book Tom Cringle's Log by Michael Scott, published by Macmillan & Co. in 1895. This beautiful peacock design is by Albert Angus Turbayne who won a bronze medal for book binding design at the Exposition Universelle of 1900 in Paris.

I have been seeing book plates stickers in various bookshops, and I absolutely love the concept <3

This is so nice, I am thinking to carve my own exlibris stamp to mark my books, I will look for DIY and give it a try, thank you.

I just came across some online ex libris stamp makers, based on Harry Potter theme, I am in love with the stamp thing rather than stickers. Stamps feel like part of the book and takes very less space

This was so interesting, but yikes! stop reading my mind. When I was small I found one (gummed) in a book from a garage sale & my mom explained what it was. Ever since I've had this falling-asleep fantasy of having one of the those huge men's club/manor house-type libraries from old English films, & each book would have a personalized, pasted-in book plate. Didn't happen -- most of my books are still from charity shops & thrift stores, but even today I enjoy thinking about it ... Great video to give me more to think about!

Quite a few private school's in Australia/UK maybe elsewhere have such school motto's !"The way of the cross, is the way of the light". Hope this helps.
