Being from Germany, I can totally confirm that our energy suicide is indeed a reality. Working as independent product developers, we could see a spike of qualified engineers from manufacturing companies suddenly applying for jobs in 2nd-tier companies, as well as an increasing number of projects across various industries being "postponed" or cancelled altogether (starting around 2015). *When I shared my observation together with my suspicion that we are in fact seeing a hidden war against manufacturing started by those in power in Berlin and Brussels with an official from the German unemployment agency, the reply was "as a private person, I can confirm your observation"* ... the German energy suicide is not an unintended consequence, it's a deliberate strategy to destroy specific parts of our economy, to re-distribute wealth and to make large parts of the population heavily dependent on the mercy of a "green" but de-facto socialist state.

Here in Finland we now have high electricity prices and it’s bad since we use it a lot, especially during our cold winter. Most houses use electricity in some form for heat. Since there are elections soon, current leaders decided to subside electricity bills. So they take loans on everyone’s name in order to beat the opposition. This must be the endangered democracy 😂

It's a scary thought to consider switching our energy production systems to photovoltaic and windmills, which have EROEI's (energy return on energy investment) of less than 5 under the best of environmental conditions. Consider that in Roman times, the EROEI was between 2 and 3, but ofcourse they had lots of slaves to support their life style. It wasn't until the EROEI reached about 6 at the beginning of the industrial revolution that the west could afford to terminate slavery. Modern western society needs at lease 10 or better to support itself. Oil gives about 20-30, nuclear up to 70 (potentially MUCH higher if SMR's and HALEU fuels could be used). This has all been by design since they initially signed the Paris accord.
I could see from the start that they set unrealistic goals that anyone should have seen they wouldn't meet; they did this in expectation of being able to do exactly what they have done: double down in the face of a perceived failure.
All this to create a world that lives by "life boat ethics", where the crisis justifies the atrocities committed.
This is that old specter of fascism, straight and simple.
The world needs to wise up to the fact that climate is a non issue in the face of Millenia old ideologies.

Donations to Ukraine. Who in Ukraine? The people in the south and east who have been subjected for many years to a still ongoing US and NATO sponsored 'civil war' conducted by a puppet government controlled by the USA or that corrupt government who oversee a very efficient black market in arms to various overseas groups and keep asking for more stock. Regrettably donations "to Ukraine" are as likely to prolong the conflict and cause more suffering as to relieve the suffering. Better to give to organizations like the Red Cross or to those helping refugees and the homeless. Zelensky has more than enough money stashed away.
