Just to do the math, that's over 10 million gross. If he pockets half of that, that over 5 million for Prince releasing something he probably created +20 years ago. Had he lived, Prince could have done this every year and banked a minimum of 5 mill a year for the rest of his life.

This might also be the real reason why Prince is no longer alive...

Prince is right, all due respect to this video. Does the record label take more of a share than the artist yes. But some, if not most of these artist needs the record label for things like marketing, venue booking, and exposure. It takes years/decades to get to the levels of nip and prince or have a mind to do everything the label does.

The point of going with those companies is because they have all the marketing and sales contacts in the world to access and have experience in doing so. Prince would be nothing had he not taken the deal. Youtube, Twitter and Facebook have done a good job at dismantling that imbalance however.
