Thank you guys so much! I tested all my fuses and my start button before I moved to the door switch (which would have been easier to test). My switch was fine, but it had gotten a little dirty somehow. I cleaned the connections and BOOM! The dryer is back online! Thanks for helping me troubleshoot!

Thank you. I was able to replace the Thermal Fuse and get the dryer working again. I didn't have any testing tools, so I went ahead and replaced this part. $20 instead of a costly service call or biting the bullet on a whole new machine!

Mine was a broken door trigger. I avoided needing to examine the motor thanks to this. Thank you very much.

My gas Whirlpool is 28 years old and still works great. Always been able to do repairs myself. Less than
$30 for repair parts all these years. Sure am lucky and am sure to be on borrowed time so to speak.

Youtube is full of videos that talk about the thermal fuse - this is the first one I've seen that points out the broken-belt safety cutoff. (Heavy wet load, old dryer, a "loud bang" when it stopped - oh, yeah, the belt is hanging free, maybe it's not the motor or fuse...) Thanks!

Checked every single thing mentioned with no luck. Then, by chance, found the knob that selects time of dry was slightly cracked. Turning knob wasn't actually turning stem, so dryer thought it was off the entire time! Hate to even admit it, but might help someone else!

I think I broke the dryer when I placed a very damp comforter in the dryer. It was working for a few minutes, then it stopped. Any ideas, on what to do?

Thank-You! Thank-You! Thank-You! I Tested all the the thermal fuse to be bad and all the other fuses to be good and it would not start by bypassing the thermal fuse without the drum and belt installed. Ah ha. Thanks for showing me the the belt switch!!!

I have a 2006 Maytag Washer and Dryer and the Dryer has started chirping when it has finished drying and turned off. I finally turned it off at the breaker so I wouldn’t have to listen to the chirping all day and night. When I turned the breaker back on the dryer wouldn’t work. I called a repairman and he came out on Friday and wouldn’t you know it worked when he turned it on multiple times! So I paid his service fee and thought my dryer was ok. (Even thought I might have hit the on/off button instead of the on.) I washed a load of clothes on Monday and the dryer wouldn’t work at all! I couldn’t change cycles or anything. When the repairman was here he checked on parts and found the control panel was still available but the circuit board wasn’t. Also the control panel was $200.00 + taxes and unrefundable in case that wasn’t the problem. After listening and watching the video I think it might be the fuses. He didn’t check any of them but did check to make sure the vent wasn’t clogged. I’m a widow and live on Social Security and I don’t have $200+ to spend if that’s not the problem. Could someone give me some advice?

Our dryer was purchased over 3 years ago and had never given us trouble until the week before Christmas. I checked the circuit breaker and also saw that the light came on when the door was opened. Rather than trying to find the problem myself, I decided to call an appliance repair company. They responded that day. The repairman found the problem within minutes, and suddenly got it running. I said, "How did you do that?" He told me that whoever installed it (Lowe's delivery) wired it wrong. The neutral and the ground wires were switched. How it ran for over three years is a mystery.
