Illegal Mining | Zama zamas to appear in court

About 55 illegal miners who resurfaced from underground and were arrested last week following the intensification of Vala Umgodi program in and around Orkney near Klersdorp in North West are expected to appear before the Stilfontein Magistrates Court this morning. Hundreds more illegal mineworkers resurfaced from underground over the weekend after the Vala Umgodi operations blocked routes used to deliver food and necessities to illegal miners underground.

While the identities of the illegal miners were withheld during processing the vast majority were reportedly from Mozambique and Zimbabwe. For more on this, we cross live to our SABC News reporter, Sentleeng Lehihi.
