Excellent info, yes it's correct that these 3 separate things get morphed into 1, depends on the exact plugin.

Whether I want those as separate or together depends on what results I want or get. And I've got plug-ins that are several things combined but others are specific to a single task.

Just one thing to add about limiters these days... they are brickwall limiters, so they are not "as compressors with a 10:1 or more ratio" as those still have an attack time and there will be peaks above the ceiling. Brickwall limiters do not do this, they always work instant as if the attack time is 0, and there will be no signal above the set ceiling. The attack time setting on brickwall limiters that have this setting is rather the first release stage (or short release) whereas the release setting would be the second release stage (or long release), f.e. on Pro L2.

Like MWaveshaper, MCompressor can also be used to expand low level details, but with a different timbre.

Why is Ozone‘s Maximizer called so? Isn‘t it just a Limiter or am I missing something?

So by your definition, isn't Upward compression and Maximization the same thing?

Compress/glue = a form of maximization.

Then i hit a chain that has a clipper.... A maximizer and then a limiter.
