Stud Country | A Documentary About the History of Queer Line Dancing

Stud Country, the largest queer country western line dancing event in America, was created to preserve Los Angeles' little known 50+ year queer line dancing tradition. Despite its success and fiercely committed community, the event is set to lose its venue due to gentrification.

When the film begins, it feels as if the directors have brought us directly to Club Bahia. Through Kenny Sulemanagich’s gorgeous cinematography and Luke Rihl’s steadicam work, we feel transported into the heart of the scene. Getting to feel the vibe firsthand, from its positive, fun and welcoming energy to the captivating beauty of the synchronized movements of the group. Wonderful! Congrats to all involved. Touching stories, well shot, and a side to line dancing that's new to me. The passing down between generations felt particularly poignant. The things in this life that bring joy should not be taken for granted.
