I struggle with the strength and recovery training. I have several sub 3 marathon under my belt but a training plan where you run sub 50 miles, 6 days out of 7 leaves little or no time for anything else.
For a 45 year old runner it would be good to have a plan with less miles but still able to maintain times .

Wow... I needed this. 2023 is the year I focus on consistency and improvement... but here we are 2 weeks in, and I haven't changed my routine much. Thanks for the humorous but blunt kick in the pants.

Guilty as charged for some of them even not so obvious ones. I just did the San Diego RnR marathon and I though on mile 21 that I need to walk and relax but then another runner joined me and we ran together to the finish line up the 163 hill without stopping and at the last mile I did a 2’’/mile better pace than the average. So for my 4th marathon I set myself a goal of 4h30. (from 4h51)which would require to improve my pace by about 50s/mile.

Laying here with a cold, reviewing my year of running... 8 times this year I had to stop running for some days, once even for a month.
I'm doing my prehab and strength training(6/7days a week), doing my warm ups and cool downs, stretching, taking recovery seriously, keeping a strict diet... on 15th of january I wanted to run my first marathon... again. Had to cancel it before due to a sprained ankle (which did not happen during a run but during a walk), 5weeks before my first marathon date on july.
Now after dedicated training, I was finally in a good marathon shape again.
Once I'm healthy again, I'll run a marathon time trial anyway to see where I am in training.
I am still motivated, my training is getting more efficient every day.
But right now, all I can do is rest (and loose fitness).
At least I have had my moments, when I felt impovements in running form and endurance.

I'll be back!🌋

I think it's possible to not get up early but still be disciplined and train consistently.

I’m over 1hr 15mins slower than that marathon time. I’ll try some strength and conditioning this cycle, been thinking about it but seeing the routine in this video it all just made sense. Upping weekly mileage from mid 40s to low 50s too.
Only been running a year and I’m nearly 31 but never too late to adopt a mindset to improve who you are each day, little by little, with patience.
