Subconjunctival Hemorrhage (Blood in Eye) | Causes, Signs & Symptoms, Diagnosis, Treatment

Subconjunctival Hemorrhage is a hemorrhage (bleeding) between the conjunctiva and the sclera (subconjunctival space). It is caused by a wide variety of causes including spontaneous causes and traumatic causes. In this lesson, we discuss a long list of causes and risk factors for getting a subconjunctival hemorrhage, the signs and symptoms, how it’s diagnosed and how it’s treated.

This is Labor day weekend so I was very concerned because I may not be able to get care if necessary. My conjunctiva was all but torn in a grape vine pruning injury two weeks ago resulting in a small blood blister and hemorrhage covering 3/4 of the sclera, which went through a muddy yellow period before clearing to a healthy white after about 12 days. The blister was scary as was the color change. I learned how the conjunctiva is oxygen permeable, and so maybe that’s how my hemorrhage was able to stay viable while my sclera was reabsorbing it?

Woke up one one day had a black eye my left eye is red and part of my right eye is red I cough quite alot and I recently vomited pretty badly I hope it doesn't last much longer because it has gotten worse over the past couple days

I've had 8 episodes in the last 6 weeks. Hemorrhages don't have time to resorb that a new one comes out. Always in the same eye, from the same corner. My eye pressure is normal, my bloodwork came back fine. Anyone knows a link to medical litterature concerning recurring subconjunctival hemorrhages? Thank you.

I thought I had a subconjunctival hemorrhage ..a small speck fell in my eye but didn’t notice until later in the day…but in 24 hours half the blood diminished and I’ve had a headache only on the left hemisphere for 48 hours..I haven’t taken any pain killers as it was advised online not to…should this be a concern?
