This is a fabulous honoring of the inhumane treatment of these queens 🔥. I need to see it in person. Love the last few posts ❤️

These women were also victims of FGM. Fistulas are very common among FGM victims.

Fabulous artwork. And thank you for so eloquently, bringing this criminal activity into mainstream consciousness. Horrifying. The sculptures are so powerful and so incredible - that was what I thought when watching the PBS segment. Kudos and thanks as well as love to you with your artistry as well as support of truth.

Father of gynecology or father butcher - it's interesting how knowledge can change your perception of people. This is part of why I've been enjoying the occasional episode of History channel's "10 Things You Didn't Know About."

These statues were immediately striking, though. Definitely another "whoa!" moment from the very beginning of the video.
I can't believe these figures were all made from discarded items. What a powerful piece. I want to do laps and carefully examine each of them (for lack of a better term). I see hips and full lips and I can't help but think of the beauty of the black woman. Definitely a new favorite for me. ❤

Bantu knots, braids, and cornrows... 🔥 I love it so much, lol.
Yes, the backstory still references black women being used and abused, but there's such dignity to how these figures are portrayed despite what these women have suffered and it empowers me. I hope I can empower someone despite the things I've suffered too.
