The one and real reason. The goal is to stop a suspect. Not kill them

I used to automatically hate police because I have encountered racist cops.

But police officers deal with the WORST people. If you have ever worked fast food, you already have an idea of how annoying, dangerous and unreasonable humans can be. Cops deal with even worse situations.

I think we need to be nuanced. My fellow Americans lack that.

We should neither bash all police nor excuse corrupt ones. We should incitize good, fair, intelligent police officers who do exist, and hold the bad ones accountable.


Support reform, not defunding. Because when someone breaks into your home, you aint going to your friends for help. Youre going to call up these guys for help.

The third reason isn’t intimidation factor, that’s just a weird cop-out. It’s the fact that they can break bones in a bite, and that’s a liability if you get the wrong guy or cause life-long issues. Police have to use only “reasonable force”, and attempt to dw escalate. Not brutally maim an on the run person. That’s why they’ve opted for the Mal.

The only thing getting softer in law enforcement is the belly’s and the egos of the police that are typically filled with anger as they escalate communication with the public to a highly negative level every chance they get.

The last one is actually valid despite what people say. I work as a guard and one of the most important thing that makes you more approachable and what makes people trust you is not being too intimidating. Now ofcourse you need to have some form of intimidation factor when it is needed, but appearing trustworthy and approachable is very important too.

I just want cops to be friends of the community again instead of macho wanna be special forces. SWAT teams were originally for difficult situations like hostage scenarios and mass shooters, however snall podunk cities had to justify their budgets so now SWAT teams are used for every little ticky tack reason now. Also i want cops to treat minorities like people instead of criminals. Does that make me soft?
