A very common question is do diesels get 20+ miles per gallon while towing. Not saying it isn't impossible because there are many different situations and factors that could help make or break this goal, but everyones truck is different. Today we test to see what my truck, a 2017 F250 6.7 Powerstroke will get while towing a 8.5x20 Box trailer.

Some one said it below, the windage on that box trailer is a killer. Honesty is key, love the vid.

Im not 100% but i think the reason is because you are in tow haul mode which normally keeps you out of overdrive gears but at least thats what i was taught but might be wrong

Lol, is this a serious question? 20+mpg towing? Towing what, helium in a tail-wind? Putting any serious weight behind thees truck will put you in the 10-11mpg range if you're lucky. Now compare that to a gasser it'll seem like you're getting 20+mpg! 😝

20+ mpg towing Hilarious downhill the entire trip with a tail wind sure. But not towing a heavy load or an RV never trust the lie-o-meter

Considering diesel is 20% more expensive than 87 and you get maybe 30% better towing, the benefits are are insignificant at best when it comes to MPG. Real benefit comes down to power.

Are you gonna talk about trucks or your hair the whole time?

shoot I know a 7.3 that's got 350k and STILL gets 20mpg WHILE towing all day long... soo you used to be able to, but now with all the emissions crap? nope

It’s so weird how mpg varies on the same vehicle. I mean, I don’t get beast mileage but on average it’s between 17.5-19. I have the same truck. 2017 f250 KR. But it’s not deleted. Just an S&B intake. All highway tho.

Nice video. Some drone shots would be awesome.

What’s funny is that’s honestly pretty low, 14k toy hauler and I’ve never seen below 13

You usually have to hand calculate the mileage to get an accurate reading with a deleted/tuned truck due to the fuel parameters and everything that were changed. Either way, you definitely wouldn't get 20mpg while towing. Love the videos bro. Thanks!

What kind of EGTs are you looking at while pulling on the different tunes?

I got a 06 ram 24v deleted tuned with efi live 8 inch lift and 38.5x15t20 Mickey Thompson mtz and hauling 9700lbs i do regularly... I get between 13.5 to 16.9 mpg depending how traffic is the more consistent speed the better but varying speeds make it lower side

Also, i get better on the back roads than the highway. I do get better mileage on the 300+hp tune on the highway. Better mileage on tow tune on back roads. Still not great. But POWAAAA
