Roland AIRA System-1 and Ableton Live

Here is my first impression of the Roland AIRA System-1 and setting it up in Ableton Live as a hardware device.

Currently the SH-101 VST plugin does not load in Ableton for Windows being that it is a VST3 plugin and Ableton only supports VST 2. I loaded the plugout by installing a trial copy of Cubase 7.5 LE.

How do you setup your system-1 to record a loop and unrecord a loop through the MX-1?

When I produce sound on the equipment connected to the MX-1 - Roland, the sound comes out on the connected monitors on the MX-1. When I record a track on the Ableton connected to the MX-1, and play this track on the Ableton, I cannot hear the sound of the recorded track on the monitors connected to the Ableton. Could you help me solve this problem?

hi Reiche, thx for the tutorial. ableton is recording system 1 with filter changes but not showing the changes with envelope in ableton, id really like to be able to see the envelope changes..any help is appreciated.

hey man, sorry for this post tho but, i have no ideea how to install it at all, and all the info's that roland is giving to me get's me confused, can you just tell me in some steps what i gotta do so i can connect it to laptop, reminding that i already checked the last patches, and also instaled it's driver on my pc. But when it comes to connect it, i'm loosing it, i have no clues what could i do in DAW like Ableton and much more things, also i don't even know how to activate this product with my key (got it when i bought it in box ) + that i have another TR-8 also from Aira . ... I tryed to find anyone to help me step by step in aira facebook group but, no1 is willing to, unfortunately . So, hope you get this straight, and lot's of thanks !

I am thinking of getting one of these synths, but I notice you say that you've connected the audio from the System-1 to your computer via your audio interface.

Yet on the Roland site it says, "In addition, you can connect the SYSTEM-1 to your computer via its USB jack to send and receive both AUDIO and MIDI data, including MIDI clock information".

Can I ask please, did you try this and find it was not possible to send audio into Ableton Live using this method, so you defaulted to using the standard audio out method?

I ask because I also use Live as my main DAW.

Hello Reiche. I Love your tutorials. Thanks for making our life easier. Please I ll be greatfull if you can heIp me. I just bought the system 1 that comes with the SH101 plug out. All is installed and running ok but when i try to load patches or even the system 1 bank sounds into the VST SH101, I cant import them because its says that: The file coud not be read (the file i am uploading is .PRM) How can i import new sounds? I got a TB-3 and a TR-8 a while back and I struggled to them up in Ableton. Finally I got them working with my sound card using a Midi aggregate device in OSX.

Now my System-1 has arrived and I am struggling again. I have added the System-1 to my aggregate device and that does not seem to work well at all.

Question: the USB connnection of the System-1 is supposed to carry both Audiio and Midi both ways so why do you need to connect the audio cables out of your System-1 to your audio interface at all ? Is the USB not sufficient ? Is the System-1 an audio interface as well like the TR-8 and TB-3 ?

Hello ... Everything is ok for me. System 1 and plug in work well for me with Ableton live 9

But i can NOT load the soudbanks ...
I have always this message

"either the plug-out synthesizer is not connected, or is connected incorrectly"

Here's a dumb question but I've never messed with hardware too much just mainly software...so this is my first time plugging it into Ableton and everything seems to be coming out "mono".The channels were selected as 1/2 but you can notice that sound only comes through channel 1.Are there specific cables that I need?Thanks in advance.

deeflash hey man, I've just got a system 1 and absolutely love it, I cant wait to start recording into ableton. Except I cant. When I get to the stage of loading an external instrument and choosing 'midi to' nothing shows up apart from configure? So I've clicked on configure and just cant work it out I think I've tried everything. Is there something I'm missing or a tutorial that anyone would be able to send me a link to? I'm a windows user and this is my first bit of hardware I'm trying to integrate into my set up! I have two options when opening Ableton with regards to choosing an interface...ASIO or MME/DirectX, I'm using DirectX at the moment which has been fine so far, am I using the wrong one? HELP! :(

hey mate thanks for the tip, ive just followed your walk through to set up in live, all midi working and sound coming through the channel,  one thing i was wondering does the volume fader work on the channel you use or do you control the volume of the synth with the volume on it or you sound card inputs as when i move the volume fader or the volume on the external instrument pluggin I can see the volume increasing or decreasing but it stays the same level? Thanks
