If you're looking to take your cat on a walk, this video will show you exactly how to get your cat from couch to country.

Holly is an expert in all outdoor adventure cat training and preparation. In this video she talks through how to do it and what she learned from training her cat Meister.

Here are the steps to harness train your cat to walk outdoors:

Adventure Cat or Couch Potato?

Not every cat wants to be the next Indiana Jones, and that's okay! But if you've got a super playful, curious cat who bolts for the door every chance they get, walking could be their dream.

Harness Training = Indoor Success.

Kittens pick this stuff up fast, but even older cats can learn! Just be patient. The first goal is getting them strutting around your house in the harness and leash like it's their new fashion statement.

First Taste of the Outdoors

Ready for the next chapter? Start small! A peaceful backyard is ideal, but even a quiet corner of your apartment complex works when it's early or late to avoid crowds. Remember, safety first: snug harness, no dogs around!

You're the Follower, Kitty's the Boss:

Seriously, this is the most important part! Let them sniff whatever they want, explore, and build their outdoor confidence. Treats scattered about don't hurt, either!

Read Your Feline Like a Book:

Tail tucked, ears flat, or trying to hide under a bush? Time to go home for a cuddle session. But tail up high and happily exploring? Looks like your training is paying off!

Patience is your Superpower:

This takes time, and every cat learns differently. Don't rush it - the fun is in the journey!

Troubleshooting 101:

Worried about your cat dashing off? A super-secure harness and starting in quiet areas will help. Dogs around? Stay calm and scoop your kitty up if needed – you're their protector out there.

Don't Let the Doubters Get You Down:

People might look at you funny at first, but who cares? You and your cat are building an amazing bond!

Indoor Cat, Outdoor Health:

Make sure your cat is up-to-date on vaccinations before venturing out. Your vet can give you all the details.

Sometimes, the Couch Wins:

Even adventure cats have lazy days. Don't force it if they're not feeling it. Short, frequent outdoor play is often the best way to get them hooked!

Remember, Every Cat is Different!

Maybe yours will be strolling the park with you in no time. Maybe they'll love a quick sniff of the air and then want inside for a nap.

Either way, this isn't about making them a perfect leash walker – it's about those amazing tiny victories, sharing adventures, and making your playful feline happier than ever.

I need help and I wanted to find I place where I cab find people who know what to do.

I have two cats, they are at one parent’s house (divorced parents) The house is very dirty and not too safe for the two cats. We have had them for 4-5 years. One of the cats is outdoor focused and stays outdoor for up to 3 days (rare) We have a nice and safe place for them to play outside its not too close to any roads.

We are moving.

We are moving to a much nicer place for the cats but its in a busy city and we cant keep living here (essentially we have to move, we already started as-well) And that busy city is not a safe place for these cats to go outside.

My parent thinks we cant bring the cats and will have to get them adopted

I say we can train them and I have been doing research over the past couple weeks. I really don’t want to lose my cats.

My parrent says the cats would be miserable locked inside and if they successfully make one escape they could die. (harsh street cats and a busy street)

parrent says they are mainly worried about cats getting hit by a car but we already live by a road and they know not to go by it.

I have been doing research and nothing I have seen has said we cant do it or that they would be cruel and I have tried searching in specific ways that could get me these types of answers but I just cant find any. My parrent still thinks otherwise, they dont want to get rid of the cat either but they think it is best for them.

We have also asked family members and friends that have big yards if they could take care of them and they all said no

anyways my parrent said they wouldnt get rid of them before I see them again on monday… Its monday and Im with them and I dont know what to do. Im confident I can delay but thats tempory
