Thanks. I'm 67 and new to welding. I wanted to understand the workings of the gas regulator. I'm sure there are comprehensive explanations somewhere on YouTube but couldn't find anything until now. Much appreciated.

Good video. One suggestion? It's always a good idea to use 2 wrenches when tightening the hose to regulator/flowmeter connection, and hose to machine connection, just to make sure nothing gets bent/broken. Just the way I was taught. I guess sometimes folks can get a little "heavy handed", using just one wrench. Anyway, thanks for the informative vid.

Is it both male and female tank cylinder valves where the argon gas regulator is threaded to on an argon tank cylinder? What is the size and thread pitch of the gas outlet fitting on the gas regulator? Thank you for you patience.

couple of questions :
1, when I have set it to 20cfh after press the button on the torch and then when it time out, it settles to about 30cfh . I have noticed that after I went to grind the tungsten put it back in the torch I saw that the flow reading had crept up to 35cfh and it was still climbing, slowly but still it was climbing.
What does that mean ?
Should it do that ?

2, I tried to weld as I am new to all this, as I welded it went to 20cfh, when stopped, settled to 30-ish cfh, then carried on like this for a few more goes . Then thought ok, stop for now, so I turned off the main valve, then just pressed the button to bleed off the gas . The flow gauge went down but the pressure gauge for the bottle stayed where it was . The main valve for the bottle was definitely 100% in the off position .
After the flow gauge went right down, I turned the regulator adjusting screw all the way backed out so no pressure on the diaphragm but the the gauge for the bottle, what is left in the bottle stayed where it was .
What does that mean ?

The valve on gas bottles is designed to not be opened fully but only opened half to one turn, so that if there is any emergency to shut off the bottle it can be done quickly.

Would the use of, gas appropriate, teflon tape be any help to these connections?

I wish there was more discussion of the connectors and hoses. I am still wondering what materials they're made from, their dimensions, their operational limits, what standards they adhere to, and what their designations are.
