The US national anthem being a drinking song taken from another country is the most American thing I've heard.

So... on 4th July Americans celebrate something that happened on 2nd July by singing a song whose lyrics were written on 14th September 1814 during the War of 1812 and set to a tune that was a popular British drinking song.
Fun fact: it wasn't adopted as the *official* national anthem of the US until 1931!
