Variables are a critical part of programming. We can make a new variable using a "variable declaration", which starts with the "var" keyword when working in GDScript (and a number of other languages).

I don't think it is strictly true that we ALWAYS wanna have an equals sign, or an assignment to the variable.

Obviously, most of the time, you'd probably want it, but there are use cases for leaving a variable as null and doing null checks etc.

Obviously, if you're at the level where this is being taught, you can safely ignore everything I said, it'll come later.

variable are not just "very important", they ARE the basis of any game.
there are NO games which dont store stare atleast in some ways (there are exceptions though)

Is a initialiser and a assignment operator the same thing?I have done a little bit of programming but never heard it referred to that

Variables are more like labels, with the data location of the specified data information. Like data-type, value and so on.

sounds dumb. Thats an index not a varable. Yes speed would be a varable, but why not type speed instead of var speed you are not creating speed you are changing it. then how did you code speed?
