Nexus 4 Wireless Charging Orb - Slipping Timelapse

Sped up by a factor of 30.

My Google's wireless charging orb has a problem slipping! I'm not using a case either, before you ask.

It's a very gradual slip, but after a while the bottom of the phone will hit the table and lift off until the phone falls on the table. I've found that if your table is really flat, the slipping is minimal (the table in the video is pretty level). However, if you keep the orb at an angle, it will fall faster! Why didn't you use magnets Google?!

I know for a fact my device had a function magnet when I first got it. The magnet no longer works and I get a slip just like in this video. I don't know if it is an electromagnet or a fixed magnet that has gotten dislodged but google will not replace the device and will only offer a refund minus a 15% restocking fee and shipping...

I would really love for someone to explain to me why I should be charged a 15% restocking fee ON A DEFECTIVE DEVICE.

Hi Everyone, I'm new here but have been pulling my hair out on this issue. I have 2 nexus 4's and 2 orbs and both HAD this problem. Here is how I resolved it and maintained the factory look and function.

1) Turn orb over so the charging face is down toward the surface.
2) there is a rubber ring on the bottom (Now Facing up if you followed the last step) designed to keep the orb from slipping. It is held on with sticky tape.

3) Remove ring - (Pull on the thickest side straight up - be sure to limit finger contact as much as possible with the sticky as you will be reusing this.
4) Use a blade to remove the 2 tiny tabs which previously lined up into the holes in the orb
5) Turn ring (rotate clockwise) 180 degrees so the thick part is where the thin part use to be -you will see the two holes are now visible
6) Press the ring back into place.

DONE!

Nice this worked for me, thanks! I was able to pull the tiny tabs off with my fingers, they seem to be glued on. Although my phone still slips off, it stays on longer

Same issue here. Google is sending a replacement. Others have told me that the magnet is very strong on theirs. I assume this is a manufacturing defect.

Thanks for pointing out the base ring hack. Changing the angle slightly seems to have fixed the sliding issue I was having at work. Cheers!

I just cleaned mine with a warm cloth and it appears to be sticking. But how much longer before I have to wipe this son of a bitch down again? :|

may be you should put in on in a more prober way. like in the video it's way too high, wont even charge

Upd. Nope, still slipping. But I got general idea and will change the angle that way a bit more.

I can't believe I didn't think of this.
Did it and it seems to have stopped the slipping.

do not buy this orb. if you're after useless things, you should go directly to apple.

Pay no attention to this issue. Google and LG told me that it doesn't exist.

Thanks for this - It seems to work for many people, but not for me :( I think it has made it better - more likely the phone will stay put, but at 50% of the time it still slips off.

Has anyone heard of any other hacks that might work?

try a protective film. It works for me.

Just saw your thread online. With me its my first nexus was fine. Bought the revised 2nd edition and it slips straight away. Very frustrating.

People i have the solution it worked 100% for me I know it will work for you buy a magneto o find one on the back of a used or broken car speaker and put the magneto as if it was the nexus on the orb like put it to charge for a few minutes and you will see the results anyway it worked for me and then I left it for a few hours and problem solved.
