Featuring the largest cannon ever intended for an anti-tank role and an equally massive turret, the FV4005 is an oddity. Today we look at the origin of this design and what's left of it today.

Most tank crews: *squeezing through tiny hatches*

FV4005 crews: *have a LITERAL door they can use to WALK into their turret.*

“Well if the Soviets can’t hit the broadside of a barn, let’s put the broadside of a barn on a bloody tank!”

A yes, the Shitbarn. The turret armor is basically only there so that the Commander doesnt get rain into his tea

Stereotypically, most British inventions throuout history were designed and built by 3 guys in a shed.

The FV4005 is when those 3 guys decided to weaponize their shed.

You know your tank is cursed when the turret hatch is actually a normal sized door

WoT: Due to balancing reasons, HESH functions as an HE.
Also WoT: Does zero damage on splash, zero damage on tracks, zero damage on spaced armor, zero damage on turret, occasionally 1-shots things for no reason.

I love how the British just slap "quick firing" on absolutely every gun they make. If they made a gun that was slower to fire than a German railway gun, they would still call it quick firing

Both FV4005s was the British “just put the largest gun you have in it” attempt

The British : We need a new tank destroyer.
Clearly a Royal Navy Engineer : Let's take a turret from a destroyer and put it on a tank chassis. There, tank-destroyer !
The British : Who gave this man too much rum ?

The British really went back to their naval roots for this vehicle and put what is essentially a heavy cruiser gun on a tank

I saw this tank at Bovington a few years ago. We were already on our way out when I spotted this Monstrum at the exit. Having played it in WOT for quite I bit I of course knew right away what it was, but I was very suprised to see it actually existed. For how ridiculous it was I always just assumed it was a concept Tank like the WT auf E100, a concept some designer thought up that never left the paper he drew it on.
My dad had to stop the car and I went to take a closer look. Not touching the biggest Tank gun to ever exist, when it was right there, was no option of course.

152mm, sloped at 60⁰, at 2000 yards... The Brits basically said, "You've got a pretty big hammer Ivan, but mine's bigger." when they designed this gun. Looking at tanks like the IS-7, I'd say the aforementioned requirements were fair.

Alright, I have to say it, WT's derpbarn functions much better than WOT's.

"We can only fire the gun in a narrow arc parallel to the tracks." "Give it a rotating turret anyway."

I honestly find British tanks to be more interesting then most because they went from a pt boat with tracks and 75mm guns to the challenger 2 the big ass modern day mbt

if i had a nickel for every time the brits made a rear mounted gun i would have two nickels, which isnt a lot but its weird that it happened twice
