Tim - excellent video mate. Thanks for sharing. I really love trams (originally being from Sydney, and now living in country Vic) I ride and photograph them whenever I can.

Sofia is a beautiful city. The tracks and right of ways are clean and litter free. The trams so new and gleaming.
What a great place Tim. Our local Chamber of Commerce could learn a thing or three or four.

Need to confess, this is the first time I could see a mixed gauge in a tram system. I really enjoyed it very much. Thanks for sharing this excellent video. With greetings from Brazil.

I can imagine the translation of the background conversations:
"This vodka shortage is ridiculous"
"Tell me about it! I haven't been able to drive my car for a month."
... Think about it... ;)

But seriously, this is a nice tram route. Thanks for posting the video, Tim.

If you want the Statler and Waldorf conversation ending...
"Yeah, but if there wasn't a vodka shortage, you *still* couldn't drive."
"True."
Both "Doh-ho-ho-ho-ho!"

There is nothing wrong with Bulgaria's green credentials (certainly Sofia) - so many trams, obviously not a wasteful scrappage scheme like UK, and they seem to keep HGV restricted from built up areas. 27:00 - did the tram-driver re-set a signal - certainly an unusual sensation reversing in a tram. Alan.

16:29 Dual-gauge tram tracks? Never seen that before. I wonder which is the newer system and which the older? Possibly the narrower gauge would be the newer due to space considerations in a busy city?

Hi Tim - I think the video is great too!  I;ve met several Bulgarians here in the UK and I don't think they are monsters or dangerous.  Using the trams is a fantastic way to get the flavour of any city - to see the various architectures changing as you rattle by and watch the residents about their daily business.  You say above it was with the Railway Touring Coy - is this open to the public?  I don't know a soul who would be interested in going with me tram-touring!

Cheers

This is an well done clip and the trams are quite nice. But...why is it that all the cars are passing the tram when it is operating on its own right of way? Is their maximum speed limited for some reason even when they are running independent of traffic?

Very nice video. Fascinating for me since trams are virtually extinct in the UK - only Blackpool kept them going through the 1960's and 1970's until joined by Manchester.
One thing that surprises me is the signage visible. I thought Bulgarian was written in the Cyrillic script like Russian. A Facebook friend in Bulgaria posts all her material in Cyrillic - which I cannot read! - but I notice here nearly all the signs are written in Roman letters. Any reason why this should be?

another great video. I do wish one thing though. Can't you get a shot of the controls once in a while? I was a driver for 41 years and would love to see the controls in your videos. Thanks.
