The Skoda Kodiaq is an excellent choice for large families seeking value for money, with an attractive starting price and seating for up to seven passengers. This model marks Skoda's first venture into the large SUV category, making it a notable addition to their lineup renowned for practicality.

This SUV offers a choice between diesel and petrol engines. In the What Car? Reliability Survey, diesel versions of the Kodiaq outperformed their petrol counterparts, securing the sixth spot out of large SUVs with a reliability rating of 96.0%, while petrol versions held the 12th position with a score of 93.1%. However, the entry-level TSI 150 petrol engine is deemed the best choice due to its balance between performance and running costs.

It's important to note that the Kodiaq is not available as an electric or hybrid model. Instead, the lineup features two petrol engines (148bhp and 197bhp) and three diesel options (148bhp, 187bhp, and 242bhp for the Skoda Kodiaq vRS sports SUV).

The SUV also offers different trim levels, with the SE L Executive trim being a preferred choice, providing additional features such as front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. For those seeking a more premium experience, the Sportline version comes with sporty styling tweaks, a larger infotainment touchscreen, onboard Wi-Fi, and more bolstered suede seats.

In terms of safety, the Kodiaq earned a five-star rating from Euro NCAP in 2017. While it was found to be highly protective of adult passengers, it was noted to be slightly less effective in safeguarding children compared to some rivals.

The Kodiaq offers ample storage with 835 litres of boot space in the five-seat versions. The seven-seater version has approximately 100 litres less when the third-row seats are folded down, but there's still room for grocery shopping or a couple of small suitcases.

Lastly, the Skoda Kodiaq is praised as an impressive all-rounder and one of the best family cars on the market today. It has been recognized for being comfortable, practical, and good to drive, as well as being relatively affordable to buy and run, easy to live with, and solidly built. Despite its large size, it's surprisingly agile and delivers respectable fuel economy, thanks to its MQB platform, which focuses on weight saving.
