Really, who wouldn’t want to spend their daily commute surfing social media, chatting with friends or finishing the Netflix series they were watching at 4 am the night before? It all sounds virtually utopian. But what if there is a dark side to self-driving cars? What if self-driving cars kill the jobs? ALL the jobs?

i catch the train to work every day and what i think most people dont realise here is if your not addicted to something on your phone after a couple of journeys it will get really boring the same goes for train bus tram autonomous cars

so yeah i am one of those people who would rather drive and put my mind to something instead of sit there like a slob

You forgot the medical and legal sector. Valet attendants? Asphalt pavers? Oil company employees? Also some jobs like architects will change since they no longer have to work on garages/parking and driveways as much.

Self driving cars are going to cause more problems then they are worth. Yes they may save lives but a lot more lives will be destroyed through the lack of jobs. High unemployment continue to have domino effects it is basic economics. The government not only receives less money but will have to pay much more to those unemployed. Low employment means not much money is in circulation, less spending, meaning many other companies will lose profits and cut workers. Self driving cars may work one day but pushing them at the current rate will cause huge problems.

There are few arguments about the loss of jobs of taxi drivers and such. But, if the car is own by a corporation. that would mean it will still need a driver. I mean the problem with self-driving cars is that technology is bound to go out of sync at some point and will need to be manually controlled by a driver until the situation is adverted. In addition that driver can act as a caterer, mechanic and co-pilot since the car will pilot itself. To further that point, if passengers are uncomfortable with a strangers presence, there can be a dividing glass, like the ones in police cars or some taxis. I think we keep building up a fear that is unrealistic until machinery can act 100% on it's own. And let's face it nothing can perform at 100% for its entire existence or use.

The Horse & buggy People felt the same when the automobile came out but the World Moved on I am Legally Blind What about The Millions of People Who Need This for their Life to improve & the 1.3 Million who die each year from distracted driving, I Think it's about time for totally Selfdriving cars.

I can't wait until the day that I can hop in a driverless car on the way to work and be able to do whatever I want. Anything but actually drive! That will be what I consider a great commute.

I´m more worried about potential smugglers using self driving cars to avoid the authorities..

No I do not like it I prefer hum a driven electric cars
