2020 Peugeot 208
The all-new Peugeot 208 is everything we expected it to be and more. The design is modern with surprising details everywhere you look and definite improvements in ergonomics and quality over the previous generation.

The 208 looks like a shrunken version of the big 508. But there's a twist to it as well. For example, the headlights are bigger, matching the bubbly cuteness of its rivals. The main grille also goes all the way down, something borrowed from the older 208.

The taillights are joined by a shiny black band, making them look like the wrap around the car. All models get this bold piano black diffuser insert too, though only the GT Line seems to have visible exhaust pipes and a big spoiler over the trunk.

Inside, the 208 is an evolution of what we saw in the 508 and 3008 - small octagonal steering wheel, digital gages sitting on top of the dash, piano keys for some controls and a wrap-around dashboard. We appreciated seeing the faux carbon fiber trim and a large shelf for wirelessly charging mobile devices. Like Patrick, the star said, "We're not Cavemen. We have technology."

The engine lineup is pretty simple. You've got the 1.2 PureTech family and the 1.5 BlueHDi diesel with 100 HP. The base unit makes 75 HP, and we think it's naturally aspirated, coming only with a 5-speed manual. The 100 HP unit is available with a 6-speed stick or an 8-speed auto, while the range-topping 130 HP model is auto-only. Gone is the 200 horsepower 1.6-liter of old.

But the real headline grabber is the so-called e-208, an all-electric model. Battery technology has come of age. Whereas the first Peugeot EV, the Mitsubishi-built iOn, had limited range despite bespoke construction, the e-208 manages to squeeze 50 kWh using basically the areas under all the seats.

The motor is the most powerful in the range, making 136 HP (100 kW) and 260 Nm (192 lb-ft) of torque. She will get to 100 km/h in 8.1 seconds and has a total range of 340 km (211 miles) under the WLTP cycle.

2020 Renault Clio
Introduced in 1990 as Renault’s proposition for the European B-segment, the Clio has grown to become the carmaker’s flagship model, with 150 million units sold since. At the Geneva Motor Show, the fifth generation of the Clio was presented this week.

The car is the first to be built on Renault’s new CMF-B modular platform that will be shared with Alliance partner Nissan. Its use means that 85 percent of the parts used in the 2020 Clio are new.

Showing a more “mature body styling and an entirely revamped interior,” the new Clio aims to continue the success of its bloodline in the years to come, offering European customers the choice between several special variants, including the RS Line and Initiale Paris.

Visually, the exterior of the model comes with ribs on the front hood, a bigger grille, and a more pronounced front bumper, as well as a central air scoop for better air cooling. Because of the 14 mm trimmed off the length of the car and the 30 mm cut from its height, it also looks more aggressive.

The highlight of the new generation is, however, the interior, sporting a design Renault calls Smart Cockpit. It translates to the widest screens in the segment, and an overall look “inspired by higher-end segments, both in terms of perceived quality and available technology.”

Engine wise, the new Clio will offer as usual a wide range of options, with power ranging from 65 to 130 hp, but the highlight of the lineup is the E-Tech hybrid.

This unit uses a 1.6-liter gasoline engine paired to two electric motors and a 1.2 kWh battery. In this configuration, and taking into account the regenerative braking system, Renault says the new Clio can “drive up to 80% of the time in all-electric mode in the city, for a gain of up to 40% in fuel consumption compared with a conventional internal-combustion petrol engine in an urban cycle.”

The 2020 Renault Clio will become available in Europe later this year.

Clio's design is classic modern and timeless ! Peugeot's design is something I appreciate today but will not like after two years. Peugeot doesn't have that "timeless" design look.

Both look amazing, peugeot has amazing lion-like style, but for a lot of people I know it's way over the top. I love it thou. Clio on the other side once more shines with amazing and very tastefull "space shuttle like" design. They are both superb small cars, 2 steps above every single car in this segment. Poor Polo I liked it a lot, but both french fancy guys just kicked its ass. I had a hard time this month to choose between those two, but at the end of the day Clio wins with it's very modern, elegant and stylish design. I couldn't decide, so I asked my wife and she voted on clio. The last thing is the interior. Clios cocpit is a little bit more stylish and at the end of the day I'm gonna mostly watch my car from the inside :D
