The Mexican cartel, border crossings and the US election

One of the biggest election issues in this election is America's southern border, with Donald Trump riling up his base with threats of mass deportations if he wins.

But in the last few months, crossings from Mexico into the US are actually at record lows, with the Democrats claiming credit.

But a far bigger effect is coming from the fear of being kidnapped or murdered by Mexico's cartels.

We took a ride on 'The Beast' - also known as the Death Train - the goods train once packed with migrants, with the few still brave enough to risk the journey.

The cartels are the enemy not the desperate people trying to get away from them.

If you speak fluent Spanish and want to work - why do you want to come to the US? Why not Mexico?

Why doesn't South America just become a part of the USA starting with Mexico ?

They should apply for citizenship, not force their way into another country.

Amazing but very sad reporting. All these people just want a better life and to work. I never understand why we dont allow these people to work when we have so many jobs need to be filled.

Imagine expecting people to be fine living in a cartel riddled country- where rape, kidnapping, mutilation, and murder is rampant- without aspiring to a better life for yourself and kids.
