In this video, we discuss why many people are ditching streaming services and going back to DVDs. With constant price hikes, content being removed without warning, and frustrating regional restrictions, streaming has become more of a hassle than a convenience. DVDs offer a reliable, permanent way to enjoy your favorite shows and movies without the unpredictable behavior of streaming platforms. We’ll break down the reasons why physical media is making a comeback and why DVDs are still a solid option in today’s digital world.

Standard blu-ray is the sweet spot. Great PQ, wide selection of titles, no garbage revisionist "HDR re-grading", no conflicting picture standards (DV vs 10+).
If 4k blu-ray could just be 10-bit SDR (like many Kino Lorber titles), I'd love it.

I still have all my DVD's and Blurays because not all content is on streaming and any day now the internet can go down.

Over the last 10 years I found my attention span has been down the drain. I will start a series for the 6th time again and after 20 minutes turn it off and switch to something else I still have to finish. And I end up watching nothing because it has become a backlog of 7 different things. So I trew out all the streaming services. And went back to the psysical. Same goes for music or video games. I put that one disc in and that will be the content I'm interacting with for the night. The unlimited library isn't as wonderful as we thought it would be.

This is exactly how i felt like 8 years ago lol. Always collected physical media, but did used to stream back then too. I just got fed up of spending more time searching for something then actually watching it. The fact these services weren’t going to release their content physically also made me not want to waste my time getting into a series or movie, as i didn’t want to have to keep subscribing to watch it. It’s even worse now, when shows are taking 2 years or more to release each season, shows getting cancelled after 1 season, etc, it’s just tiring. Since i stopped streaming altogether, i spend like £10-20 every 1-2 months, the cost of 2~ subs, and i get a couple of full series, or 5-10~ movies, on dvd or blu ray, and it’s things i actually want to watch or have been curious to see. Actually owning them and getting extra things like behind the scenes and commentary are a big plus for me too!

I still kept my DVD of True Lies after upgrading to 4k.
Still have over 500 DVDs in my collection that haven’t had Blu Ray or 4k releases

The most underutilized resource in my part of the US is using the public library. I'm in a mid-size midwest town and my library has almost everything you could think of in physical media plus free streaming options.

Agree 100 percent. Having a disc means it's always there and you don't have to chase content around a bunch of streaming services. And once it's loaded up, you can binge 2 to 3 hours of episodes without having to switch discs or sit through ads.

Not to mention, used dvds are dirt cheap. I find single seasons of shows all the time for a couple of dollars.

I never got rid of my physical media for streaming.
Yes I have Amazon prime, but I've never watched anything, I have it to get physical media next day.

There's a charity shop in my town that sells dvds 3 for £1, since August I've picked up 30+ films, any genres although horror seems to be lacking.

I'm not one of those "I'm done with streaming" as I never gave up physical media to begin with.

I just bought 2 DVD movies myself today. They'll be ripped onto my Nas drive and added to my Kodi program.

I am physical Media all the way. I have over 3000 titles of movies and TV series sitting on my shelves and since I ran out of space in boxes. I have a spreadsheet with all my titles with runtimes. I need to sell or slow my buying because at 4 hours a night it will take me more than 13 years to re-watch it all.

Dvds on smaller TVs look okay but not on large screens resolution is too low

If you are into SD tech like CRT or Plasma TVs DVDs are great - the biggest downside for me being a UK resident in a PAL region is that I hate PAL speedup on movies and NTSC conversions so I have to hunt down Region 1 versions but that is usually not too hard

I'm not completely going back to DVDs but there's some movies I've upgraded to 4K that had a really nice release on DVD and I'm not in love with the movie so I probably don't need it in 4k. So some of those movies I'm considering selling the 4K and keeping the DVD. Of course this doesn't apply to movies like Conan!

I'm not going back to DVDs but I do think many 4K people are the types to focus on specs more than movie enjoyment itself
