China Collapsed: Apple To Start Production With India

Apple have been working with suppliers to move the production of iPhone to India. As contract manufacturers tried to diversify production away from China, India, and countries such as Mexico and Vietnam are becoming increasingly important. Apple's Taiwanese supplier Foxconn has studied the process of shipping items from China and assembling the iPhone 14 at its plant outside of Chennai, India.

India has been attempting to position itself as an alternative to China for device and electronics manufacturing. The government has launched several initiatives including the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme. It has been reported that Foxconn and Apple partner joined the scheme about two years ago.

The Chinese economy's slump and Zero Covid Policy may have been the caused of Apple to reconsider its ambitions for production in China. If conditions improve, Apple may expand the capacity of its production factories in India or perhaps establish new ones. Given Apple's growing confidence in the Indian manufacturing plant, new iPhone assembly lines, such as iPhone 14 and forward, in India may not be far off.
