Foreign Secretary Liz Truss announces further sanctions on Russia

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss says the UK will impose new powers to prevent Russian banks from clearing payments in sterling, and has announced a full asset freeze will be brought in on all Russian banks within days.

The Russian economy is tanking already. I don't believe Russia expected this hard-line response from the West. I don't believe most of us Westerners expected this. Because we have been soft and fence sitting in the past. But this invasion by Russia has truly united the western world in a way I didn't think was possible.

I've never felt so moved by a speech. I heard Churchill's speeches from WW2 and while they were absolutely heroic and galvanizing, I wasn't alive in WW2 and the conflict was long over by the time I was born so as much as I felt hearing his speeches it had a disconnect of sorts for me. This speech, effecting a conflict that is still raging and uncertain, gave me the chills. I'm happy to see that the world is uniting against such tyranny.

As a Chinese person, I've never listened to a British parliament speech so seriously and for so long, and I have never agreed with western sanctions so much. Vladimir Putin has to be defeated, or I will lose faith in humanity once and for all.

im ukrainian and at 9:00 i really had to cry. i love how the uk is saying that they support us even if they have to suffer economic losses themselfs. its touching because they dont need to, we never did anythingy for them but yet they want to help us when needed :)

Russia's assets need to be seized to pay the damages occasioned by the invasion. All private Ukrainian citizens must be compensated for the losses of their family members. Their private properties must be restored to their pre invasion condition.
