There is an ambiguity in the problem statement as given in pathfinder. In this Video I have improved the problem statement and provided a lucid explanation. Also many students might be tempted to solve this problem using pressure volume relations for reversible adiabatic process but that would be a conceptual blunder. Hope you like this Video...

Sir it is very true for adiabatic equation not valid for irreversible process but it is true during the process we can apply the equation at initial and final state...
In this question it is asking the height when the piston ultimately settle down..
I think we can do with PV^y....

What can we say about the entropy change in following cases
Reversible adiabatic exapansion/ compression
Irreversible adiabatic exp/compression

Since dQ=0 there is tendency to set change in entropy as zero.
How could we analyse the scene here.
