On this day in 1830, the first public Negro National Convention was held in Philadelphia.

The body would meet to discuss a host of pressing issues facing Black people at the time, including abolition. However, the topic that brought the convention together was the possible mass migration of Africans in America to Canada to escape persecution.

Baltimore activist Hezekiah Grice pleaded with Black leaders across the country to consider a plan for emigration to Canada. His calls were heard, and the topic was debated at the convention.

I understand the past being commemorated my issue lies with the present situation among the youth as they're systematically set up to fail due to the environmental factors which eventually lead up to their initial development and contribution to society. Mechanisms of positive growth are nonexistent-plus the culture of violence being normalized within given communities without state intervention or should I say adequate required intervention. Off the top of my head... Hope this gets someone thinking.

How about now, give us reparations and we can leave and go to Canada or African, Panama.
