It's a combination of algorithms detecting things, but also of how the appeal system works. I was suspended from Twitter and ignored for 7 months, seemingly because a video by prominent black academics and activists was misread ridiculously as 'racist' (i.e. in the anti-black sense). The system just suspended me and ignored me. It's automation, algorithms and if there is any human element it is rushed and underpaid workers, probably in some center in India or the Philippines or somewhere. I'm not sure how I got unsuspended, and never received any warning, notice, explanation or apology, but I think it was due perhaps to a celebrity seeing a comment I made on some videos discussing the same subject back in January; someone maybe tweeted about it and then deleted the tweet when I was reinstated, because that month my profile had many thousands of visits. I'd given up on twitter and probably didn't even realise I was unsuspended for a couple of weeks. The base issue is that people are expendable to them, and can just be treated so negligently and contemptuously and just replaced with someone else. It's a symptom of our wage-slave, sink or swim idea of economy, which in itself is wasteful and unsustainable, let alone humane.

How is it that the companies do not care that the datasets of the images they feed the AI aren't diverse enough? Did they really expect a different result? I don't like pushing diversity as it is already heavily politicized, but this is one area where ensuring diversity is crucial. It's not a social or psychological thing, it's a very technical requirement you just can't escape from. I'm not talking about the people they hire, though that would certainly help. I'm talking about ensuring the images they feed are as representative of real life as possible.
But then again why would they? Why make the effort when they can get the money with a half-assed work?

It's not just about software it's about the electronics also having limitations on what it can and can't see

It simply does what it was trained. If the data is biased, results as well. We feed our biases into the AI so it is basically a reflection of us.

People are so stupid. Technology advances incrementally, that doesn't make it "racist". The automobile was invented several decades before cruise control. Besides I would consider the ability to defeat facial recognition technology an advantage anyway.
