Another method.
Vietha’s formulae determine sqrtx and sqrty to be interchangeably the roots of the equation
u^2-10u+10=0 providing same results. Lesser calculations.
Or if you square the original equations you get
x+y=80 and xy=100 so you can directly find x and y to be interchangeably the roots of the equation
v^2-80v+100=0

You could avoid a lot of unnecessary work if you just considered the symmetry of the problem.
