As a person who works in lunch duty

It is required, if we don’t give it, we get in trouble, you should also be thankful. A lot of people don’t understand why they need a fruit or vegetable.

Not getting any food at home I was really happy when schools started serving more nutritious lunches. I know it’s a joke but I can’t believe some people actually get mad at having to be served good food.
Edit: by “good food” I meant healthier than what they normally serve, not the taste. I worded it weird. Trust me, as someone who seasons the crap out of everything, I don’t like the taste of plain steamed broccoli either. However, I rather have at least some of my nutritional needs met over the lack of flavor.

As the grandchild of a former lunch lady, they have to give it to you so that don't get in trouble. Everybody loves my grandma but she can also be scary to some people so nobody would ever throw their fruit/vegetables away and actually eat them lol

Man, when I was at school we had such a sweet lunch lady and the one thing I cannot forget about her is that for EVERY kid every time she's giving us food she says " what do you want, Darling".
Best person I ever knew in my school.

As a person whose mother is a lunch lady, I can tell you that they are forced to do this. A school lunch is not considered "complete" without that fruit or vegetable. So they're literally just doing their job. This is like slapping a traffic cop for not directing traffic the way you want. They're just trying to do their job, and are required to tell you that you need a fruit or vegetable.

Man I remember my middle school lunch lady she was so awesome because she had a very heavy Russian accent because her family got past the Berlin wall during the Cold War she'd always have stories to tell and it was so cool.

My middle school used to do this. They wouldn’t let you go eat until you have fruit or vegetable on your plate. A lot of kids would grab an apple and then threw it away afterward.

I don’t actually think they choose what they serve you. Pretty much all schools make the lunch ladies serve a healthy part of the meal. And they are just trying not to loose their job. So the next time you feel like slapping a lunch lady, just slap your principal instead. 🤠
